Las Vegas & Hoover Dam

Las Vegas - Venetian Hotel

In the morning, we want to enjoy our hotel a little and head to the pool area. At this time of day, the temperatures are still quite pleasant and we can relax a little. We check out of our hotel around midday and drive to the Mirage, where we can park our car for free. One by one, we check out the Mirage, Treasure Island and Venetian hotels. It's usually so cold in the hotels that you freeze in shorts and it's a good 40 degrees outside. Afterwards, we drive briefly to the Hard Rock Cafe and then on to the Stratosphere Tower. From the top you have a wonderful view over Las Vegas. Unfortunately, the "free fall" is not in operation due to strong winds. We drive on to Fremont Street, which is quite unspectacular during the day, but unfortunately we didn't manage to see the light show the night before. Instead, a 18 oz (500 g) T-bone steak for USD 9.95 awaits us in a restaurant.

We leave Las Vegas at around 3:30 p.m. in the direction of Hoover Dam, where we arrive after about an hour's drive. It is even warmer here than in Las Vegas and there is a really warm wind blowing. The border between Nevada and Arizona runs through the middle of the dam and when you cross it, you also change to a different time zone.
