New York here we come - tomorrow
After more than two years of abstinence from long-distance travel, it should start again.
At 3:30 am we took the train to Berlin airport. On the way then the info that the flight is shifted from 8:50 am to 2:00 pm. Well not nice but OK. Two hours later then the info, flight canceled. There the mood was only times in the cellar. Arrived in Berlin, we had to take care of a rebooking. By the way, the support of United on site, was more than questionable or non-existent.
Anyway, we were then rebooked for the next day on a Lufthansa flight to Frankfurt and then on to New York. At least United then takes care of the accommodation in Berlin.
So that was a classic false start. But I can anticipate, from then on everything worked out organizationally.
We land on schedule at John F. Kennedy Airport around 1:30 p.m. New York time. Immigration is quick and our luggage is right there. So we grab a Yellow Cab and get a comfortable ride to our hotel "The New Yorker", which is located very central in Manhattan. We arrive there sometime between 3:30 and 4pm.
For the ride with the Yellow Cab from JFK to Manhattan, a price of 52 USD is fixed. Then there are some separate fees and tolls for the tunnel or bridges to Manhattan. In total you should expect a tip between 70-80 USD. You can find more information on the Website of JFK Airport.
Since we have lost a day, we have to freshen up and go straight to Brooklyn, more precisely to Dumbo. The weather is fantastic and so we enjoy the view of the Manhattan Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge and of course the Manhattan skyline.
In the evening sun we walk over the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan.
We walk to Chinatown and then take the metro at Canal Street to Times Square. From we arrive there it is already dark and my parents do not believe their eyes as they see the simply oversized neon signs in the crowd. I must also say that it has simply become more again, compared to 2017, when I was the last time in New York.
