Bryce Canyon

Today's program includes Bryce Canyon and the subsequent drive to St. George, which takes us through several national parks and some lesser-known canyons.

Capitol-Reef National Park

Even on the way to Bryce Canyon, we see an overwhelming landscape: Capitol Reef National Park and Dixi Forest, which are only a few miles apart, are very different in terms of landscape, vegetation and weather. While it is still warm, rocky and dry in Capitol Reef, it snows shortly afterwards in Dixi Forest, so we can't stand it for long in shorts and T-shirts in front of the car. Nevertheless, the views are stunning. According to an information board, we can see more than the size of Luxembourg from a vantage point. Thank goodness it doesn't stay that cold. Twenty minutes to half an hour later, we are at the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument and it is much warmer, drier and rockier again and the view is once again stunning.

Next we reach Bryce Canyon. For the second time after the Grand Canyon, we pay an entrance fee of 20 dollars, but it should be worth it. We are not disappointed, the pictures speak for themselves. I also manage to persuade the little man to walk down the Navajo Trail into the canyon. The trail is great, my fear of heights only makes itself felt in a few places. The way down is still quite easy, the way up was very strenuous, but as I said: it's definitely worth it. All photos were taken from Sunset Point.

After Bryce Canyon, we drove towards St. George. We actually wanted to drive through Zion National Park, but unfortunately it wasn't marked on the map that we had to pay a fee of $20 just to use the road to St. George. We decide to turn around and take Route 59 instead of Route 9.

Since we find a Motel Six in Hurricane, 11 miles before St. George, we spend the night here: for $97 gross, thanks to Labor Day.

Outside the hotel, we eat at Taco Bell for the first time. We stuff ourselves with tacos and burritos for just under 12 dollars.
